When she was four, Nancy was aware that she would like to become an accomplished musician. She discovered her talent for music through participating in choirs of the church. She won a TV-talent show when she 15 and began performing regularly on the tv series Skyline Melodies while still in high school. The same year when she was working, she began performing in nightclubs. Nancy was just 17 at the time she completed high school. After matriculating at Ohio Central State College - which is now Central State University - for one semester, Nancy went on to become a professional performer. In 1956, she recorded her debut record with Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band with who she performed on tour between 1956 between 1956 and 1958. Nancy released her debut recording via Dot Records during the time she spent in this band. Cannonball addederley suggested she move to New York for her career after which she moved into The Big Town. Within a month she got a gig singing at The Blue Morocco Night Club located on Boston Road in The Bronx the place where her agent heard her voice and agreed to sign her. In 1960, she was signed to Capitol Records, and that the same year, she debuted her debut single. Guess who? Capitol has released five Nancy Wilson albums within two years. Under Adderley, Wilson began concentrating on R&B and then shifted her focus to jazz and torch music. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley formed a band in 1962. This helped push her up on the charts. By 1963 she had her biggest hit by releasing Tell Me the Truth.
